NASA/SETI researcher Dr. Rosalba Bonaccorsi loves Death Valley; loves to wonder about life on Earth and on other planets; loves the journey of discovery. She wants to share these joys with you on a full 2-day immersive sleuthing adventure (Mar. 1 & 2) or the 1-day mini sleuthing adventure option (Mar. 1 only).

During this program Dr. Bonaccorsi will share findings from her research in Death Valley and the journey she took to make these discoveries. But more importantly you will get hands-on, guided opportunities to develop observation skills and form your own questions.

DAY 1: Adventure Prep & Heading Out

  • Info and skill training to get you started
  • Then out into the field to practice along Badwater Road and Artist Drive
  • Day 1 ends around 3:30.

DAY 2: Field Day

  • All day in the field along the North Highway and Ubehebe Crater
  • Day 2 ends at 2:30 pm at Ubehebe Crater (approx. 1 hour from Visitor Center).

PROGRAM DETAILS

Each participant is required to sign a Participant Agreement Please fill-in program title and date and bring to meet-up on first day.

  • Both days meet at Furnace Creek Visitor Center flagpole at 9:00 am.
  • Part of Saturday morning spent at Visitor Center for info & skills sessions.
  • Group caravans in personal vehicles to stop locations.

When in the field:

  • Bring at least 4 liters of water per person.
  • Be prepared for sun: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, long-sleeved shirt
  • Also be prepared for wind, rain, and possible cold mornings.
  • Participants provide their own lunches and snacks.
  • Bathrooms: Vault toilets will be available at some stops, but not all.
  • When no toilets are available, we will practice Leave No Trace Principles: packing out all trash, toilet paper, etc. Learn more.
  • Do not expect cell phone service at most stops.

Participants are still responsible for paying the park entrance fee upon arrival.
